Romania: Luxembourg National Day and 115 Years of Diplomatic Relations

On 10 June 2025, in collaboration with RomLux (Romania Luxembourg Business Forum), the Embassy of Luxembourg organized a conference in Bucharest titled “Brancusi & Steichen: The Crossed Pathway of Two Great Twentieth-Century Artists”. This event, which was followed by a reception, celebrated the National Day of Luxembourg and the 115th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Luxembourg and Romania. The venue was kindly provided by the Municipality of Bucharest at ARCUB, the cultural center of the city of Bucharest.

The conference featured an interesting presentation on the relationship between Luxembourg photographer Edward Steichen and Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, and was held by Ms. Doina Lemny, Art historian and honorary curator at the National Museum of Modern Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, in France and Mr. Paul Lesch, Commissioner for the Edward Steichen Collections at the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg. Following the main speech by H.E. Ambassador Ms. Elisabeth Cardoso, H.E. State Secretary for European Affairs, Ms. Clara Staicu also delivered opening remarks, as well as the President of RomLuX, Mr. Razvan Radu.

The cocktail reception was attended by prominent figures from the Romanian government, the diplomatic corps, and the cultural and commercial sectors. This event also marked the conclusion of H.E. Ms. Elisabeth Cardoso’s tenure as Ambassador to Romania.
